Hallowell businessman named Innkeeper of the Year
Scott Cowger of Maple Hill Farm Bed and Breakfast and Conference Center in Hallowell has been named Innkeeper of the Year by the Maine Innkeepers Association.
The association says Cowger, the innkeeper and co-owner of the Hallowell property, is a leader in sustainable hotel operations. The property was the first to achieve certification as a Green Lodging and Environmental Leader through a state Department of Environmental Protection program. Other firsts include the installation of a wind turbine and the state's largest solar electric array.
Air carrier hopes advertisers enticed by captive audience
It soon will be harder to avoid advertising if you fly on one major carrier. Atlanta-based AirTran Airways is installing ads on the bottom of seat-back tray tables on all its planes.
Passengers have to keep the tray tables in their upright, locked position, during the beginning and end of their flights. That means an unimpeded view of the ads, which AirTran hopes will bring in new revenue at a time when much of the industry has been reeling.
AirTran expects the ads to be on its 138 planes within weeks.
