NEW FACES

 

Dan Coyne of Westbrook was hired at the Maine Center for Economic Policy as a fiscal policy analyst. For the past few months, he has worked as an independent contractor and consultant to two renewable energy companies.

Andi Kouros has joined Seacoast Hand Therapy of South Portland. She has been practicing physical therapy since 1992 after graduating from the University of New England.

Sarah Yantakosol Gayer of Cape Elizabeth has joined Thompson & Bowie LLP of Portland as an associate attorney. She is a 2005 graduate of Bowdoin College and a 2008 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law, specializing in civil litigation, insurance defense, and professional liability with an emphasis on legal malpractice and disciplinary claims.

Amy Richards of Biddeford joins Party Plus Rentals, a division of Taylor Rental, as a booking agent.

Mike Smith of Mapleton is joining the Maine Winter Sports Center as a community development coach. He has a range of outdoor and leadership experiences, and has a strong connection with the communities of northern Maine. He will be a resource for communities looking to establish or build upon existing outdoor recreation programs.

Christan Anderson of Camden is a new general surgeon at Penobscot Bay Medical Center. Her specialties include breast cancer, hernia and endocrine surgery, endoscopy and laparoscopic and minimally invasive gall bladder and bowel surgery.

Dr. Duke Dufresne has been named Martin's Point Health Care's new vice president of Health Plan Medical Management. He received his medical degree from Tufts University and has served as medical director in managed care organizations for 10 years, most recently as the national medical director for OptumHealth, United Health Group's medical management subsidiary.

 

AWARDS and RECOGNITION

Rinck Advertising of Auburn received the International Academy of Visual Arts 2009 W3 Silver Award in the category of self-promotion. This award honors outstanding Web sites, Web marketing and video created by interactive agencies, designers and creators worldwide.

Jim Chalmers of Chalmers Insurance Agency has received the Maine Young Agent of the Year Award, presented at the Young Agents Conference in Portland by Swett & Crawford.

Kristen Silvia, M.D., of Maine Medical Partners Scarborough Family Medicine, is being honored by the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation for her commitment to education in the field of family medicine. She is a graduate and current part-time instructor at the Maine Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program.

Sharon Eggleston received the Joshua Chamberlain Award from the Military Community Council for orchestrating space-related trips and activities for schoolchildren for the past several years. She was nominated by Capt. Dean Krestos, supervisor of the Navy's Bath shipbuilding effort.

Vreeland Marketing and Design was recognized with four Gold Awards for outstanding work in the public relations field at the Golden Arrow Awards hosted by the Maine Public Relations Council. The company received the awards for the enhancements they made to The Cliff House Resort and Spa's Web site and for the resort's new cookbook "Dining at the Cliff House."

Islandport Press of Yarmouth, an independent publisher, has received the 2009 Focus on New England Award for Outstanding Regional Literature from Barnes & Noble Inc. This award is given annually to a publisher or author who has significantly contributed to literature promoting New England. The press is family owned and has published 40 titles focused on the northern New England states.

 

GENERAL

Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce announced the five candidates for the board of directors for 2010 through 2012. They include Nancy Schultz of Raymond James Financial Services, Mark Curtis of Dragon Products, Kevin Waters of Penobscot Island Air, Christopher Burke of Pen Bay Healthcare and Jake Barbour of Jake Barbour Inc. These members will be seated at the December board meeting.

Russell Martin has started Public Health Solutions PLLC, a professional limited-liability company in the midcoast, to provide training, evaluation, design, and licensing and permitting services relative to wastewater treatment and disposal, drinking water treatment and distribution, as well as related public health issues throughout the state. He has more than 37 years of experience in the public and private sectors.

G.M. Pollack & Sons Jewelers has opened its newest store in Augusta at the Turnpike Mall on Whitten Road.

Arthur Cerullo of Yarmouth will serve a one-year term as the American Lung Association's Nationwide Assembly speaker and will help lead the association's work to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease.
