Heating oil prices increase in Maine
AUGUSTA — The average price of heating oil jumped 10 cents to $2.48 a gallon last week, as indicated by the Governor's Office of Energy Independence and Security survey.
"Crude oil prices have been rising over the last two weeks, as optimism in the equities markets and increasing tensions in Nigeria pulled markets upward against the tide of market fundamentals, where above-normal inventories and low demand continue to point toward lower prices" said OEIS Director John Kerry in the Oct. 19 press release.
"All Maine consumers should prepare for next winter's heating season today by taking steps to weatherize their homes and carefully planning a budget," Kerry said.
The lowest actual heating oil price, $2.27 per gallon, was found in the southwestern region of the state, while the high-end price, $2.70 per gallon, was found in the eastern region.
Statewide, the average price of kerosene was $2.77 per gallon and propane was $2.86 per gallon, based on using 600 gallons a year.
