NEW FACES
Michelle Bush of Portland joins Pierce Atwood LLP as an associate in the firm's employment practice group, working in the Portland office. She worked as a legal intern for the Massachusetts Department of Education during the summer of 2007 and taught eighth-grade social studies for three years before starting law school.
Avery Day of Yarmouth joins Pierce Atwood LLP as an associate in the firm's governmental relations and litigation practice group, working in both the Portland and Augusta offices. He worked for four years for Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, in Washington and is a graduate of Harvard Law School.
Maire Corcoran and Halliday Moncure have joined Bernstein Shur's Portland office as part of the firm's business restructuring and insolvency group. Corcoran's focus will be on the representation of restructuring businesses, creditor interests and acquisitions of distressed businesses and their assets in connection with formal and informal proceedings, as well as related commercial litigation. Moncure will focus on the representation of restructuring businesses, creditors, acquisitions of distressed businesses and their assets, both inside and outside bankruptcy litigation.
James Garrett is a new member of Bernstein Shur's business law and real estate law practice groups. He is working at the firm's Portland office, focusing his practice on commercial and corporate transactions and matters, as well as real estate leasing, titles and transactions.
Edward Sackman is a new member of Bernstein Shur's litigation practice group, working at the firm's Manchester, N.H., office. He has experience with a broad range of civil litigation, including labor and employment issues, commercial litigation, federal fraud investigations, products liability and personal injury disputes.
Dr. Howard Margolskee joins physicians Amber Pena and Inga Johannesson at a new internal medicine practice, Auburn Medical Associates. He provided care to patients at the Pittsfield Health Care Center for nearly 20 years. The three physicians at the new practice share a special interest in adult medical care.
Matthew Lane and J. Andrew Cashman have joined the Maine offices of Preti Flaherty. Before joining the firm, Lane was a professional runner sponsored by Nike and a member of two U.S. national teams. Cashman worked as a summer associate for the firm in 2008 and has served as a Bernstein Fellow for the Maine District Court.
PROMOTIONS
Vinal Doody, principal of Baker, has been named to the position of director of the health care consulting division of Baker Newman Noyes, an accounting firm with offices in Portland and in Manchester and Portsmouth, N.H. Doody joined the firm in 1996 after many years as a senior Medicare auditor with the federal government.
AWARDS and RECOGNITION
Scott Carlin, WSC Inc., of Hallowell is the recipient of the Maine Grocers Association 2009 Grocer of the Year Award. Carlin and his wife, Rena, and their two sons own and operate three grocery stores in Aroostook County, including the Hillside IGA in Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill IGA and Star City IGA in Presque Isle.
Kennebec Savings Bank has earned the American Lung Association's 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award for its participation in the Trek Across Maine. Each spring, more than 50 bank employees create the "Loan Rangers" team for the trek. This year, they were the second-largest corporate team and second-highest corporate fundraising team, raising more than $40,000.
Kathleen Finnegan, managing editor of the Wells-based national magazine Lighthouse Digest, was recently honored with the Great Lakes Lighthouse Festival's Founders Award for her 20-year involvement in lighthouse preservation.

Darlene Williams of Portland is celebrating her 20th anniversary at KeyBank this month. She is a senior relationship associate for the bank's commercial loan department in Portland.
