This is quite disturbing, but instead of just focusing on the fact that Maine is 48 let's all try to work together to make Maine better. It really shouldn't be too hard to improve from 48, should it? My suggestion is that we the people and businesses in Maine have more in depth discussions with our state government to tell them we need things to get better. Then (and here is the hard part) we need to actually suggest what could be done to make things better.

This ranking considers the tax structure and regulatory climate. But that isn't all there is to running a business. While we're talking about changing the elements that earn us 48th place, let's not forget about "quality of life" issues.

This is really scary...considering Maine is run by small business. It shouldn't be so hard for people to start businesses -- and run them cost effectively -- in Maine.
