Released 11/16/09PORTLAND, Maine – Cuban Exceptionalism Reflections on Latin American History presented by the Maine Humanities Council will take place 8:30 am – 3 pm on December 4, 2009 at the University of Southern Maine.
Co-facilitated by Professor of History at Bowdoin College, Dr. Allen Wells, and Associate Professor of History and Women’s Studies at the University of Southern Maine, Dr. David Carey Jr. Drs. Wells and Carey will explore Colonialism, the Cuban Revolution and the post-Revolution era topics including the history and context of the United States’ restrictions on immigration, the future of these restrictions in relation to new lines of communication and the future of the Cuban-American experience in light of these new measures.
“This is a very timely and important subject,” noted Martina Duncan, Assistant Director of the Maine Humanities Council. “Programs such as these give us a deeper understanding of these vital and topical subjects.”
