Released 11/13/09Lighthouse Digest, a national lighthouse news and history magazine and publisher of lighthouse history books, has opened a lighthouse gift shop at 985 Cutler Road in Whiting.
Although the gift shop will sell Lighthouse Digest logo merchandise, its primary function is to promote and sell Little River Lighthouse related merchandise to help with the ongoing fundraising of the historic lighthouse located on an island in Cutler Harbor.
Tim Harrison, publisher of Lighthouse Digest, who is also chairman of the Friends of Little River Lighthouse, said that up until now, all of Little River Lighthouse products were only available for sale on the island in the summer months and by mail order. “Now we have a permanent location where local people can stop in and help support the nonprofit lighthouse group’s ongoing restoration cost associated with the lighthouse.”
The gift shop has a wide section of merchandise that features Little River Lighthouse such as hats, sweatshirts, coffee and travel mugs, prints, Christmas ornaments and many other gift items. “We are hoping that people will stop in to purchase a few items for Christmas to help support the lighthouse,” said Kathleen Finnegan, co-secretary of the nonprofit group.
The Lighthouse Digest Lighthouse Gift Shop will be open Thursdays through Saturdays from noon to 3:00 pm or by appointment by calling 207-259-2121 or 207-259-3833.
The Friends of Little River Lighthouse is a chapter of the American Lighthouse Foundation. To learn more about the lighthouse you can visit their web site at www.LittleRiverLight.org . To learn more about Lighthouse Digest you can visit their web site at www.LighthouseDigest.net.
