Return to complete index3 Winners Announced on MaineBusiness.com
Released 11/10/09MaineBusiness.com and MaineToday Media announce the winners to their New Business Stimulus Package Contest. More than 40 entrepreneurs with new businesses or ideas for businesses entered the contest. Many encouraged their supporters and customers to show support by adding comments to their entries.
Three winners were picked based upon the strength of their business ideas. Twelve businesses in Maine contributed $6,000 worth of prizes for each winner. The winners are:
Work It Up
This non-profit enterprise connects unemployed professionals with valuable short term projects for Maine's businesses, municipalities, and non-profit organizations. The professionals get a chance to work in their area of expertise, make valuable contacts and add experience to their resumes. Their "employers" gain free help. This is an organization that strives to create a win-win.
Andrew J. Brewer Construction
Andrew Brewer is a contractor who wants to create a social networking site that allows anyone in the construction trades to show resumes, letters of reference, pictures, videos and booking calendars. Consumers can use the site to find competent contractors in their area. Social media and construction don't seem to go together but this idea has a chance of bringing the two worlds together.
LifeStages, LLC
With an increasingly aging population, elder care is becoming a significant challenge. This organization will provide information and referral services, education, geriatric care management, elder mediation and consulting support on eldercare issues through the workplace. There are companies that do this but LifeStages sees an unoccupied niche by providing elder care services to businesses.
MaineBusiness.com would like to thank all the contestants for entering. There are a lot of good ideas that didn't win. Hopefully their founders will continue to work toward their dreams.
In addition, MaineToday Media would like to thank the generous donations for the prize packages from the following businesses:
