Released 10/9/09WESTBROOK, ME — October 9, 2009— Ocean Communities Federal Credit Union – a federally-chartered credit union serving Cumberland and York Counties – announced today that it will be sealing its “time capsule” on Friday, October 16 at the Ocean Communities Westbrook branch.
“Over the past year, we have been collecting memorabilia that represents Westbrook in the current day,” stated Judy Morin, vice president of operations for Ocean Communities. “We have collected items ranging from photographs to restaurant menus to newspaper clippings and everything in between. I think we’ve really been able to capture a sliver of Westbrook’s dynamic personality with these items.”
The sealing of the time capsule coincides with the credit union’s one-year anniversary in Westbrook.
“It’s been a great year for us here in Westbrook,” states Denis Knox, branch manager in Westbrook. “The community has truly been very welcoming. It’s been a great deal of fun getting to know people and collect their items for the time capsule. I’m sure the things we’ve collected will provide those in the future with a true snapshot of Westbrook, Maine in 2009.”
The time capsule is scheduled to be opened on October 16, 2060.
Community businesses and residents are encouraged to bring in items for inclusion in the time capsule prior to October 16. Desired items include most anything that would give people fifty years in the future a glimpse of life in current-day Westbrook.
