Return to complete indexSunset Cruise to Benefit Lighthouse Preservation
Released 5/27/08If you like lighthouses and enjoy the beautiful seascapes of West Penobscot Bay, then you’ll want to mark your calendar and join the American Lighthouse Foundation on Friday, June 27, 2008 aboard the M/V Monhegan for a sunset cruise on the bay that will allow for close-up views of four Midcoast Maine lighthouses.
During the two-and-a-half hour cruise you will see Rockland Breakwater and Owls Head lighthouses at the edge of Rockland Harbor, as well as Rockport Harbor’s Indian Island Lighthouse and Camden Harbor’s Curtis Island Lighthouse.
Narrating the cruise will be American Lighthouse Foundation (ALF) historian Jeremy D’Entremont, who also is New England’s foremost lighthouse authority and author of numerous books on the region’s lights.
The lighthouse cruise will benefit the preservation and education efforts of the nonprofit American Lighthouse Foundation, based in Rockland, Maine, with offices inside the Maine Lighthouse Museum at One Park Drive.
ALF is the caretaker for 20 historic lighthouses throughout New England, including 10 lights located in Maine (Boon Island, Cape Elizabeth, Halfway Rock, Little River, Owls Head, Pemaquid Point, Perkins Island, Prospect Harbor, Rockland Breakwater and Wood Island).
The Monhegan will depart on June 27th from Rockland’s Harbor Park at 5:00 pm, which is located adjacent to the Maine Lighthouse Museum. Snacks will be available on board the vessel or you may also bring your own munchies.
The lighthouse cruise on West Penobscot Bay promises to be fun for the entire family or a group of friends looking for a great evening together – and be sure to bring your camera to capture the beauty of Rockland Breakwater, Owls Head, Indian Island and Curtis Island lighthouses – and a memorable bay sunset!
Tickets for the lighthouse cruise are $30 for American Lighthouse Foundation members or $35 for non-members. Interested individuals can purchase tickets online at www.lighthousefoundation.org by mail (a printable form is online) or by calling the American Lighthouse Foundation at (207) 594-4174.
