About AMF
Tony Payne joined the Alliance for Maine's Future as its Executive Director in 2006. A native of Portland, Maine and resident of Falmouth, Tony has spent more than 30 years as a business executive in Maine and has been active in civic affairs. He serves as a town councilor in Falmouth and as a member of the Board of Visitors for the University of Southern Maine. A graduate of Cheverus High School in Portland, he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Hobart College in Geneva, New York.
His experience includes:
- New England Regional Vice President for Communications at OneBeacon Insurance
- Vice President of Underwriting & Marketing at Maine Employers' Mutual Insurance Company
- Executive Vice President, Burgess Advertising & Associates
- President of Maine Media, Inc., an advertising, market research and public relations agency with offices in Portland and Auburn
- Director of Property Management with Portland's Ram & Co
His past civic work includes service as
- Board Chair for the Institute for Civic Leadership
- Board Chair of The Portland Club.
- Board member of Atlantic Bank
- Board member of Maine Chamber of Commerce
- Board member of Maine Council on Economic Education
- Board member of York-Cumberland Housing

- Board member of Cheverus High School
- Board member of PCA Great Performances.
A member of the Maine Public Relations Council, he has received both the President's Award and the Edward L. Bernays Award for lifetime achievement.
He and his wife, Grace, are raising their three boys.
