The Power of the Wolf
If you own a business or if you’re a manager or executive you’re no doubt always looking for ways to motivate your employees. Employee motivation means bigger profits; no secret there!
What motivates employees?
Well, what motivates YOU?
Motivation of the American worker is changing. Gone are the days when a pay raise was the primary motivator in the workforce. Today’s employee wants greater control, greater latitude to express his or her talents and abilities and the opportunity to control one’s personal vision of success…
…The same factors that motivate business owners, managers and executives. In every level of the workforce, today’s employee simply wants more control over his or her life.
“A different kind of employee is emerging in the workplace. Increasingly, worker’s commitments may be more to themselves than to their employer.”
From “Journal of Extension”, www.joe.org, Ohio State University Extension
The fact is the workplace is changing. Employee motivation is emerging as one of the most
important keys to profitability. Countless studies show that motivated employees are more
productive. A Gallup study of more than 10,000 employees in 12 industries shows that a positive attitude toward work means a 44% probability of producing above average profits.
In this new age organizations that encourage the success and fulfillment of individual employees will enjoy this profit expansion. The greatest profits will go to those who understand the importance of cultivating individual success and satisfaction in the workplace.
“The strength of the pack is the wolf, and the strength of the wolf is the pack.”
Rudyard Kipling from the Second Jungle Book
When each individual in an organization feels a sense of power, the organization’s power is multiplied. The key to a successful organization is to create opportunities for each individual to realize personal power and fulfillment. When each individual feels that the organization supports personal success, that person becomes more loyal and more productive.
Make your employees powerful and your organization becomes more powerful. The key to organizational power is Personal Power.
When the wolf is powerful, the pack is powerful!

Great post Jim. It's a similar concept to what we see in technology & communication today. People don't want to be told what's best for them, they want to be part of the conversation. They want choices, they want to engage in dialog and decisions that effect their lives.
Could this be an application for the corporate blog -- serving as a sounding board for motivation ideas that are on the table, encouraging employee opinions?
If you haven’t already, check out the Motivation Show in Chicago to see what big business this really is.

Suzette,
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts...
We live in the greatest age of freedom ever realized, yet too many people feel a lack of personal empowerment.
Organizations that are receptive to the voices in the workforce, and as you mention, engage them in the dialog, will ultimately be the most successful.
Thanks for the tip on the Motivation Show!
Jim
