"I Voted Today"

“I voted today.”
I just got one of those cute little stickers. So what does that do for me?
1) I now have the right to gripe and complain for at least the next year. It doesn’t matter how I voted or whether or not any of my choices win; I exercised my privilege and my obligation.
2) If you didn’t vote, I reserve the right not to listen to your griping and complaining. In fact; I’ll probably tell you to go pound sand. You still have the right to complain, but if you’re not going to do the bare minimum to participate in our process…screw you!
3) If any of my positions emerge victorious, I can validate that I’m right, at least for now! If I’m right, it’s up to you to try to convince me otherwise.
4) If any of my positions lose, I still know I’m right. But, I’ll if you’re on the other side I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and I’ll go with the flow. I figure it’s my responsibility to convince you through respectful debate and dialog, not to condemn you just because you’re wrong.
5) It just makes me feel good. There were some important issues on this ballot; I did what I could to learn about them and I voted my conscious. I’m now patting myself on my bald little head.
6) I set a good example for the kids I teach every day. I can be completely self-righteous in this regard.
7) It got me out of the house on a beautiful fall day and gave me the time to get a nice Hersey’s chocolate bar and a Dr. Pepper.
To be honest, I didn’t really care about the sticker. I took it because of the powerful elderly woman who was working security over the ballot machine. I tried to escape without the sticker, but she ordered me to halt.
Once I realized she was unarmed I thought I could make a break. “You’re not going anywhere,” she barked, “without your sticker!”
After 25 years as a professional martial artist, I know when I’m facing a superior opponent! I took the sticker!
If you voted today, thanks for keeping the American vision alive. If you didn’t; go pound sand!
