Book Belts are functional bookmarks that secure to hardcover books. They solve the problem that bookreaders have of losing their place when a book is dropped and a traditional bookmark falls out. This product solves that problem by securing the bookmark piece to the book belt which is attached to the outside hardcover. In addition, the book belt provides an exterior pocket so that the reader can store glasses, writing utensils, cellphones, keys, etc. The material would be made up of natural and/or recycled products that are washable. The target market would be for recreational readers as well as business professionals, and students. Book Belts could also be used as a promotional product and include company and school logos. Customers would buy book belts in order to be organized and effecient since it provides a storage area for essential items. It would also provide a way to secure their place in the book that a traditional bookmark does not. My only competitor at this time would be traditional bookmarks, I have not found a product like mine available which is what prompted me to design a better bookmark. When my youngest son was a toddler, he would often pull my bookmark out of the book that I was reading and I would lose my place. I tried rubber bands and other methods to securing my place and from there it grew into a product that would solve that problem and also provide a storage area. Students could store highlighers & pens, vacationers could store hotel keys & money, etc. I also see potential to market book belts to schools and book reading clubs (especially with the success of Oprah and Regis and Kelly book clubs). They would also be available in many different print designs appropriate for children, women, men, teens, seniors, professionals, designer, etc. My plan is to expand book belts for soft cover books as well.
