Proper Dress started as an idea. As of December 2009, Proper Dress will solve the economic problem by selling only clothing manufactured in USA. How does that solve the problem? If you check out my competitors: LL Bean, Cabelas, Life is Good and even Carharrt, you will find that their clothing is not made here. While Carharrt has SOME that is made here, they are still sending most of their work outside the US.
Working with All American Clothing and AS Tees, I will sell only their products which puts the American dollar back in our economy. Keeping my product line simple and affordable will make this an excellent opportunity to keep money right here in Maine.
While Proper Dress's idea, licensing and trademark information was started back in 2005, no sales were even started until this year, so this is the first year with any cash flow, therefore it is the first year I am paying taxes, this makes me a company as of 2009. However, I have only been a website and need to open up a brick and mortar store, ideally in Freeport in the new "Freeport Village" shopping center where you will find other large retailers who will help drive my business.
My target market will be the college and High school level students who are our future. The styles I will be carrying as of December 1, 2009 are exactly what they are looking for: Made in USA, eco friendly, and very cost efficient.
The inspiriation for this business decision is because our economy is so bad right now, that while I was a full time Administrative Specialist for Southern Maine Community College, and a student in the Business Management Certificate program, I was laid off from the college. I personally want to put money back in Maine, create more jobs here in Maine and be able to support our soon to be thriving economy..............One Shirt At A Time.
