Falmouth, ME July 1, 2009 – Celsius Technology Group’s product Celsius Publisher,
a groundbreaking Web-based, hosted platform that creates a universal content community, has been approved by the Page Cooperative, a newspaper cooperative with more than 1500 publications in its membership.
“This is a great market for Celsius Publisher and it makes sense for the members of the Page Cooperative,” said David Costello, president of Celsius Technology Group. “I have been in the news business for many years and our goal, when we developed this product, was to create a system that was easy to use with seamless communication within the newsroom and during the editing process that in turn makes it easy to publish content to the web and in print.”
PAGE is a not-for-profit, member-owned cooperative buying association. Members of the organization pool their individual purchases to create large-volume leverage that earns significant discounts and rebates from over 100 suppliers.
News organizations gather an enormous amount of information and data each day; this system helps manage all of the content being collected and/or distributed, to the web or print. The ease of use of the system makes Celsius Publisher a consolidated solution for content management without limit or barrier. The beneficiaries include both the newsroom that uses the system and the readers who can become more engaged with the content.
Adam Kempler, Chief Web Officer of Celsius Technology Group added, “One of our goals is to help newsrooms and the newspaper industry reinvent themselves for the digital age and we believe this partnership with Page Cooperative is a step in the right direction.”
Celsius Technology Platform includes:
• Celsius Publisher - This component redefines the concept of a story. In Celsius Publisher, a story is a container for one or more elements such as text, audio, video and polls. Publisher also provides greater access for readers; for instance, the system allows readers to participate in the story creation process to add elements to an existing story, such as uploading photos and videos associated with a particular piece.
• Celsius Story - Publisher offers an easy-to-learn and adaptable system for story creation and management; the system requires nothing more than a Web browser. When a writer or editor logs in, he sees the “My Stories” page, listing all stories he's created, or that have been assigned to him. Likewise, when photographers log in, they can instantly review all the photo requests they’ve been assigned to shoot. The system's history-tracking feature, for instance, allows writers, editors and others to follow all changes and manage page layout more efficiently. Staff members can offer comments throughout the entire editorial process.
• Celsius Pipeline - Accompanying Publisher is a companion system known as Pipeline, which provides a platform for sharing news stories, photos, audio, video and other relevant content from participating news organizations, content creators, blogs and other content-sharing networks. Additionally, members can search and download content from Pipeline to use in their own web and print publications.
Celsius Publisher is currently being used by several weekly newspapers in Maine.
The Forecaster Newspapers serves southern Maine with four weekly editions covering specific geographic areas. The Forecaster’s Web site, www.theforecaster.net , is being powered by Celsius.
"Celsius Publishing has made our newsroom more efficient and allows us to post fresh content quickly to our Web site," said Mo Mehlsak, Editor of the Forecaster.
The Lewiston Sun Journal, a medium sized, daily newspaper covering Central Maine and three magazines from Navigator Publishing including Ocean Navigator, Professional Mariner and Smart Homeowner are all currently using Celsius Publisher..
The product’s pricing structure is subscription-based with applications that are customized to meet the client’s needs. Celsius Technology Group’s system is hosted by Bay Ring Communications, a leading provider of voice and data telecommunications services in New England.
