YARMOUTH, MAINE (JUNE 2009) — Dahlov Ipcar, author and illustrator of “My Wonderful Christmas Tree” and “The Cat ant Night,” and illustrator of “The Little Fisherman,” written by legendary children’s book author Margaret Wise Brown, will sign copies of the recently released commemorative editions of those books at the Books and Bloom Maine Book Fair July 11 at the Boothbay Railway Village. Jean Flahive, author of “Billy Boy: The Sunday Soldier of the 17h Maine,” will also appear at the fifth annual event.
Ipcar and Flahive will be available for book signings from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. The Boothbay Railway Village is located at 586 Wiscasset Road, Route 27, in Boothbay.
Ipcar has written and illustrated more than 30 children’s books, all from her studio looking out over her farm on Georgetown Island. Today, Ipcar’s intricate, distinctive and fanciful artwork is known worldwide, with pieces of her art in the permanent collections of numerous renowned museums. Ipcar, 91, continues to paint every day.
Flahive, of Falmouth, has had a lifelong interest in the Civil War. She has taught collge courses, is a member of the University of Maine System Board of Trustees and has worked as a grant writer, fundraiser and project developer. She has won numerous awards for her work and community service. “Billy Boy” is her first novel.
